Paola Minekov is an up and coming London-based artist who is making a name for herself in the art world with her unique and captivating style of cityscape paintings.

With an emphasis on architecture, each of Minekov's cityscape pieces contains an array of carefully selected elements that bring a sense of awe to the viewer.

From the intricate details of an old building to the modern architecture dominating the skyline, every piece of Paola's art evokes a powerful emotion. Minekov is a master of merging the old with the new, juxtaposing traditional styles with modern ones, to create truly captivating scenes for her audience to experience.

Use of mixed media

Currently an Artist in Residence at art’otel Battersea, Paola is exploring the idea of mixing traditional art techniques with modern materials, creating a new concept of acrylic and mosaic mixed media cityscapes. Reimagining the urban landscape, Paola blends her exploration of architecture with her skill in painting visual stories to create captivating and unique works of art that evoke a sense of wonder in the viewer.

As in her previous cityscapes, she relies on the vibrant colours and sharp precise lines of acrylic paint but this time she also introduces expressive oil paint and the tactile texture of wood, glass, mosaic tile, paper and fabric to portray the unique energy of the city and create a 3-dimensional representation of a cityscape.

By combining a wide variety of mediums, Minekov’s art reflects the modern and ever-changing spirit of the city, bringing it to life in an exciting new way.

Bold use of colour

One of the most distinctive features of Paola’s cityscapes is the bold use of colour. It is often used to capture the vibrancy of a particular scene and create a visual impact. The artist cleverly juxtaposes complementary colours to create a harmony and a sense of balance in her work.

For example, in her pieces depicting the Lloyds Building in London, Minekov uses bright oranges and yellows to contrast the deep blues and neutral greys of the night sky. This technique allows the viewer to intuitively feel the subtle beauty of the cityscape through experiencing colour.

Architectural elements

Architecture and architectural elements are essential components in Paola’s cityscapes. Her works focus on the way in which the structures of the city interact with each other. Each element in her art is connected to and affects the rest of the painting. Using architectural elements, such as bridges, famous buildings and structures, she creates an atmosphere of activity and life in cities. She often includes details such as street lamps, the pattern of a pavement or the texture of a brick wall, giving the viewer a sense of being present in the scene.

Capturing the life of the city in each piece of art

One of the signature elements of Minekov’s artwork is her ability to make the city come alive in each piece. In her compositions, she employs unexpected perspectives and vibrant colour palettes to evoke the bustling energy that characterises large urban centres, such as London, Amsterdam or New York.

Her work is particularly successful in depicting the unique character of each city, often showing the distinct architectural elements that make it so captivating.
